Techtoolz a wiki newsletter designed to make your life just a little bit easier!
Instead of a paper newsletter, I will be sending you the link to the wiki with up to date library and technology news. Hopefully, you will find the information informative and helpful.
Copyright -
- Did you know that showing a movie rented from Blockbuster or the public library for entertainment purposes in the classroom breaks copyright law?
- Did you know that a student can only use 30 seconds of a song in a multimedia projected for educational purposes?
Wondering how much you know about copyright? Check out this quiz from TechLearning.com . It was informative and some of the answers might suprise you.
TechLearning.com also has a great Fair Use and Copyright Chart that is a quick and easy reference regarding the most commonly asked fair use and copyright questions. (You are able to change the orientation of this document by using the toolbar icon that has a piece of paper with a curved arrow)
A special thank you to Lori Burch for sharing these resources in her online course Teaching Beyond the Classroom Walls.
Audacity -
Audacity is a great free ware program that allows you to record your voice. It is available on all of our computers (either on the desk top or in the programs menu) and all that is needed is a microphone (we have great headsets in the library that have microphones.) The possibilities with audacity are endless. Currently we have two staff members using Audacity for students to record themselves reading so they can monitor their progress. In Feburary our "medical interns" will be recording their medical findings and diagnosis for patients with endocrine diseases. It can be used for podcasting, imported into movie maker and would be great for students that need the test read to them!
The files can be saved very easily as a audacity file (which needs audacity to play) or an MP3 which can be played on an IPOD.
